This black-transfer faience wall plate, titled En Arrêt (“On Point”), depicts a huntsman and his dog poised before the flush—an image once common in the salons and hunting lodges of rural France. A basketweave border frames the scene in soft relief.
Made by Saint-Amand et Hamage in northern France, the piece reflects the enduring artistry of a manufactory whose roots trace to the early 18th century. By the late 1800s, Saint-Amand had become one of the country’s premier faience producers, celebrated for its finely printed pastoral and sporting motifs.
Glazed to a warm ivory tone and delicately crazed with age, this plate reflects the refined elegance of turn-of-the-century French ceramics—ideal for wall display or as part of a collection alongside its companion, Renard Wall Plate.
